Teardowns
Objectives
- Understand the inner workings of competitor products
- Display the products and how they work for other members of design teams
Process:
- Take apart Inhalers/Products limiting damage to all internals (often using an ultrasonic knife)
- Take pictures and videos throughout the entire process (DSLR and Macro Lens)
- Observing the inner workings of the devices
- Determining the learned information from each device
- Laying devices out on foam-core
- Use PowerPoint to create a full size board to neatly display components
- Apply print to foam-core
- Display parts correctly in exploded view for everybody to understand
Results:
- Allowed for the processing of dosage forms 6 times faster than manual operation
- Teardowns are now called "Dan Romano" Teardowns and there is a guide on how to put them on boards in this manner
