Counterfeit TesterDesigner
This project involved a great deal of design for me. It was for my GE1110 class, in which we were tasked to build a device which tested two objects (one real, one fake) and determined which was real and which was fake. As a group we decided to test pills, a commonly faked product and one in which we could easily make two different types (salt and sugar) and compare the differences between them. I was the lead designer for the casing, and had a lead role in the group when it came to assigning roles. I designed the casing in Solidworks for 3D printing. I designed the case to fit all the sensors and actuators. This included a conductivity tester (designed by me), a weight sensor, and a color sensor. We utilized servos for an analog display of data, as well as an RGB led, a green LED and a red LED. All of these were incorporated into the design. You can see an initial sketch and a casing in the images to the right. This project was very successful in completing our intended task and I believe that with better sensors and a larger budget we would have been able to fully design a device for real world use. |
